It is from December 2025 and pertains to India’s Test series defeat against South Africa. An old video is being circulated with a misleading context.
Claim
An Instagram user, ‘rns_news200’, shared the viral video on February 23, 2026, claiming that after the loss to South Africa, head coach Gautam Gambhir issued a stern warning to Indian fans. The caption stated that Suryakumar Yadav was heavily trolled on social media after the match, and Gambhir responded strongly, saying players should not be unfairly targeted and the team deserves support, especially during difficult times.

Fact Check
To verify the claim, we conducted a keyword search on Google. We found the same video on the official X (formerly Twitter) account of sports journalist Vikrant Gupta. The video was posted on December 7, 2025. According to the caption, Gambhir was expressing dissatisfaction following India’s performance.

We also found the longer version of the video on the official website of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), where it was published on December 6, 2025. In the full video, Gambhir is clearly seen speaking about India’s defeat to South Africa in a Test match. The specific segment that went viral appears around the 1 minute 58 second mark.

Conclusion
Our research found that the viral claim about Gautam Gambhir’s video being linked to trolling after the T20 World Cup 2026 is misleading. Debunking is most effective when it comes from trusted sources, provides detailed explanations, and offers guidance and verifiable advice. Debunking is reactive in nature and it focuses on specific instances of misinformation and is closely tied to fact-checking. Debunking aims to mitigate the impact of misinformation that has already spread. As such, the approach is to contain and correct, post-occurrence. The most common method of debunking is collaboration between fact-checking groups and social media companies. When journalists or other fact-checkers identify false or misleading content, social media sites flag or label it such, so that audiences are alerted. Debunking is an essential method for reducing the impact and incidence of misinformation by providing real facts and increasing overall accuracy of content in the digital information ecosystem.

- Individuals can play a role in debunking misinformation on social media by highlighting inconsistencies, recommending related articles with corrections or sharing trusted sources and debunking reports in their communities.

Omegle, a chat and video messaging platform, epitomizes this modern conundrum. Launched over a decade ago in 2009, it has burgeoned into a popular avenue for digital interaction, especially amidst the heightened need for human connection spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic's social distancing requirements. Yet, this seemingly benign tool of camaraderie, tragically, doubles as a contemporary incarnation of Pandora's box, unleashing untold risks upon the online privacy and security landscape. Omegle shuts down its operations permanently after 14 years of its service.
The Rise of Omegle
The foundations of this nebulous virtual dominion can be traced back to the very architecture of Omegle. Introduced to the world as a simple, anonymous chat service, Omegle has since evolved, encapsulating the essence of unpredictable human interaction. Users enter this digital arena, often with the innocent desire to alleviate the pangs of isolation or simply to satiate curiosity; yet they remain blissfully unaware of the potential cybersecurity maelstrom that awaits them.
As we commence a thorough inquiry into the psyche of Omegle's vast user base, we observe a digital diaspora with staggering figures. The platform, in May 2022, counted 51.7 million unique visitors, a testament to its sprawling reach across the globe. Delve a bit deeper, and you will uncover that approximately 29.89% of these digital nomads originate from the United States. Others, in varying percentages, flock from India, the Philippines, the United Kingdom, and Germany, revealing a vast, intricate mosaic of international engagement.
Such statistics beguile the uninformed observer with the lie of demographic diversity. Yet we must proceed with caution, for while the platform boasts an impressive 63.91% male patronage, we cannot overlook the notable surge in female participation, which has climbed to 36.09% during the pandemic era. More alarming still is the revelation, borne out of a BBC investigation in February 2021, that children as young as seven have trespassed into Omegle's adult sections—a section purportedly guarded by a minimum age limit of thirteen. How we must ask, has underage presence burgeoned on this platform? A sobering pointer finger towards the platform's inadvertent marketing on TikTok, where youthful influencers, with abandon, promote their Omegle exploits under the #omegle hashtag.

Herein lies a digital wilderness where online predators and nefarious entities prowl, emboldened by the absence of requisite registration protocols. No email address, no unique identifier—pestilence to any notion of accountability or safeguarding. Within this unchecked reality, the young and unwary stand vulnerable, a hapless game for exploitation.
Threat to Users
Venture even further into Omegle's data fiefdom, and the spectre of compromise looms larger. Users, particularly the youth, risk exposure to unsuitable content, and their naivety might lead to the inadvertent divulgence of personal information. Skulking behind the facade of connection, opportunities abound for coercion, blackmail, and stalking—perils rendered more potent as every video exchange and text can be captured, and recorded by an unseen adversary. The platform acts as a quasi-familiar confidante, all the while harvesting chat logs, cookies, IP addresses, and even sensory data, which, instead of being ephemeral, endure within Omegle's databases, readily handed to law enforcement and partnered entities under the guise of due diligence.
How to Combat the threat
In mitigating these online gorgons, a multi-faceted approach is necessary. To thwart incursion into your digital footprint, adults, seeking the thrills of Omegle's roulette, would do well to cloak their activities with a Virtual Private Network (VPN), diligently pore over the privacy policy, deploy robust cybersecurity tools, and maintain an iron-clad reticence on personal disclosures. For children, the recommendation gravitates towards outright avoidance. There, a constellation of parental control mechanisms await the vigilant guardian, ready to shield their progeny from the internet's darker alcoves.

As various technological developments enable our phones to take on a greater role, these devices, along with the applications they host, also become susceptible to greater risks. Recently, Zimperium, a tech company that provides security services for mobiles and applications from threats like malware, phishing, etc., has announced its identification of a malware that is targeted toward stealing information from Indian Banks. The Indian Express reports that data from over 25 million devices has been exfiltrated, making it increasingly dangerous, just going by the it has affected so far.
Understanding the Threat: The Case of FatBoyPanel
A malware is a malicious software that is a file or a program, intentionally harmful to a network, server, computer, and other devices. It is also of various types; however, in the context of the aforementioned case, it is a Trojan horse i.e., a file/program designed to trick the victim into assuming it to be a legitimate software program that is trying to gain access. They are able to execute malicious functions on a device as soon as they are activated post-installation.
The FatBoyPanel, as it is called, is a malware management system that carried out a massive cyberattack, targeting Indian mobile users and their bank details. Their modus operandi included the process of social engineering, wherein attackers posed as bank officials who called their target and warned them that if no immediate action was taken to update their bank details, their account would be suspended immediately. On panicking and asking for instructions, they were told to download a banking application from the link sent in the form of an Android Package Kit (APK) file (that requires one to enable “Install from Unknown Sources” ) and install it. Various versions of similar incidents were acted on by other attackers, all to trick the target into downloading the file sent. The apps sent through the links are fake, and once installed, they immediately ask for critical permissions such as access to contacts, device storage, overlay permissions (to show fake login pages over real apps), and access to SMS messages (to steal OTPs and banking alerts). This aids in capturing text messages (especially OTPs related to banks), read stored files, monitor app usage, etc. This data is stolen and then sent to the FatBoyPanel backend, where hackers are able to see real-time data on their dashboard, which they can further download and sell. FatBoyPanel is a C&C (command and control) server that acts as a centralised control room.
Protecting Yourself: Essential Precautions in the Digital Realm
Although there are various other types of malware, how one must deal with them remains the same. Following are a few instructions that one can practice in order to stay safe:
- Be cautious with app downloads: Only download apps from official app stores (Google Play Store, Apple App Store). Even then, check the developer's reputation, app permissions, and user reviews before installing.
- Keep your operating system and apps updated: Updates often include security patches that protect against known vulnerabilities.
- Be wary of suspicious links and attachments: Avoid clicking on links or opening attachments in unsolicited emails, SMS messages, or social media posts. Verify the sender's authenticity before interacting.
- Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) wherever possible: While malware like FatBoyPanel can sometimes bypass OTP-based MFA, it still adds an extra layer of security against many other threats.
- Use strong and unique passwords: Employ a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols for all your online accounts. Avoid reusing passwords across different platforms.
- Install and maintain a reputable mobile security app: These apps can help detect and remove malware, as well as warn you about malicious websites and links (Bitdefender, etc.)
- Regularly review app permissions and give access judiciously: Check what permissions your installed apps have and revoke any that seem unnecessary or excessive.
- Educate yourself and stay informed: Keep up-to-date with the latest cybersecurity threats and best practices.
